The Crown & Sceptre

The Crown & Sceptre in St. Marychurch is Torquay’s premier jazz and folk music venue. Every Tuesday night the Crown and Sceptre have live jazz playing. If you love classic traditional Inns then the Crown & Sceptre is for you, and conveniently it is not too far from Treacle Valley Campsite.

Sailing regattas Torquay. Entertainment in Torquay, theatres, cinemas, regatta's, live music venues and local festivals in Babbacombe, Torquay.

Babbacombe Regatta has been running for 197 years. Babbacombe regatta is normally held on the weekend around the middle of June. Local and visiting sailors race off Oddicombe Beach and around Babbacombe Bay. Babbacombe Downs is a good viewing point to watch the racing, or if you want to get involved, go down to Oddicombe Beach.

Babbacombe Regatta is run by Babbacombe Corinthian Sailing Club and is located in St. Marychurch which is only a couple of miles from Treacle Valley campsite. The club is open to non-sailors and visitors during regatta weekend they also have a beer festival offering local real ales.

The Little Theatre in Torquay is run by the TOADS Theatre Company. The award-winning Little Theatre is tucked away in the leafy Meadfoot district of Torquay. A converted church, the Little Theatre is an ideal venue for a theatre it’s very atmospheric and well-proportioned and it has a lovely little bar where you can enjoy a drink in the interval.

The Little Theatre also runs a Wednesday club, where you can have a coffee and some light nibbles and catch up on what’s on at the theatre, the current plays, and performing actors.

The Princess Theatre is Torbay’s largest theatre and draws big shows and named entertainers. Princess Theatre also enjoys a prime location right on Torquay’s seafront and from the theatre’s Breezes café-bar, there are great views over Princess Pier and Torquay harbour and seafront.

The Blue Walnut is located in the heart of Chelston which is a lovely leafy district in Torquay.

The Blue Walnut is a quirky cafe bar, and gallery, with a unique tiny cinema. The Blue Walnut has a vibrant film club which is held on the 1st Monday of every month, and also shows live poetry, music, and comedy events.

Vue Cinema in Paignton is Torbay’s largest and most modern cinema. The Vue Cinema in Paignton has all the latest technology including 3D and Sony 4K digital screens.

Vue Cinema is located on the Esplanade right on Paignton seafront and Paignton Sands Beach and is coupled together with a theme pub and a locally run bar, and restaurant called The Shoreline Beach Bar and Restaurant. We haven’t eaten there but we have heard good reviews.

The Spinning Wheel is famous in Torbay for live music events and has been playing live music ever since I can remember. In my youth we would go to ‘The Spinny’ as it’s also known, to watch our favorite local bands.

The Spinning Wheel is renowned for live rock band performances along with jazz, blues, and funk. To this day The Spinning Wheel is still a very popular, classic pub and live music venue.

Paignton Zoo is a great day out. If live entertainment is what you want then we would suggest a visit to Paignton Zoo. Paignton Zoo is a very popular local attraction, there is plenty to see and do, and it’s all very well done.

Brixham Pirate Festival is a relatively new phenomenon to Brixham but through the ages, Brixham has many connections with piracy.

Brixham Pirate Festival started when there was a race worldwide to gather as many pirates together in one day in one place. Brixham held the record in 2009 and today the town of Hastings holds the record at 14,231 pirates. The festival is normally held over the 1st bank holiday weekend in May. All good fun, Brixham Pirate Festival is worth visiting. Brixham is one of the largest fishing ports in the UK, so fish and chips and a pint is beckoning.

Brixham is steeped with history and an interesting place to visit, we regularly catch the ferry from Torquay and spend the day there.

The gallery also exhibits paintings from famous local ‘Brixham Artists’ which you may have seen on television.

The Strand Art Gallery is worth a visit whilst visiting Brixham.
