Treacle Valley is ideally situated for walking holidays as we have easy access to 'The Southwest Coast Path', which is only about 30 minutes walk from Treacle Valley campsite. In addition, Torquay, Paignton, Brixham and the surrounding area of Torbay is steeped with history and there is plenty to explore here by foot.
We have compiled a list of short walks and day walks from Treacle Valley campsite and these walks have been added first. We have also included walks further afield too, around and about in Devon.

Walk to The Linny, Coffinswell (Approx. 2 miles one way)
This scenic countryside walk takes you from Treacle Valley Campsite to the charming thatched Linny Inn in the peaceful village of Coffinswell. Starting from the campsite, head north along the country lane towards Daccombe. Follow the quiet road as it gently climbs through rolling hills and hedgerow lined fields, offering stunning views of the surrounding valley.
Continue straight until you reach the junction at the top of the hill, then bear right, following signs for Coffinswell. As you descend, you’ll pass through traditional farmland and wooded areas, where you may spot local wildlife such as pheasants and buzzards.
Upon entering the village, The Linny Inn is hard to miss, a beautiful 14th century pub nestled among historic cottages. It’s the perfect place for a hearty lunch or drinks before retracing your steps to the campsite.
This walk is suitable for most abilities, but good footwear is recommended, especially in wetter weather. Please take care on narrow lanes and watch for occasional traffic. It’s a lovely way to explore the country lanes of South Devon right from your pitch!

The Linny Inn, Ridgeway Lane, Coffinswell, Devon, TQ12 4SR

Walk to The Wild Goose Inn, Combeinteignhead (Approx. 3.5 miles one way)
This rewarding walk leads from Treacle Valley Campsite to The Wild Goose Inn in the idyllic village of Combeinteignhead, winding through ancient lanes, quiet hilltops, and historic, unspoiled bridleways.
Begin by heading north from the campsite toward Daccombe. As you enter the village, take the first right, then after 100 yards or so, the first left that climbs steadily up for about 300 yards. At the top, you’ll arrive at a T-junction. Please be careful as the road can be busy. Here turn left and then immediately right onto Ridgeway Road. This stretch is the heart of the walk, pause to take in spectacular panoramic views over the Teign Estuary to the east, and the rolling hills of South Devon to the west. On a clear day, Dartmoor’s nation park tors can even be seen on the horizon.
Continue along Ridgeway Road to the end, then turn right onto one of the old bridleways that slopes up then down toward the Teign Valley. Continue down util, you reach a corrugated gate on your right. Turn right! These paths are ancient and less trodden, so take your time. The route eventually emerges in the heart of the village, then turn left. The Wild Goose Inn welcomes walkers with its rustic charm and excellent local produce.
Sturdy footwear is advised, especially for the bridleway sections. This walk offers a rich blend of country lanes, landscapes, history, and local hospitality, a true countryside gem.

Walk to Brunel Woods (Approx. 2 miles one way)
This walk from Treacle Valley Campsite to Brunel Woods offers a mix of quiet countryside, some residential and woodland exploration, with rewarding views and a touch of local history.
Leave the campsite and head South toward Torquay. Turn left up Daccombe Hill, (the hill here is quite steep, so take your time and enjoy the surrounding farmland and hedgerows). At the top, turn left to follow the lane on the right toward the Torquay and the edge of Barton, where the landscape shifts from rural to residential.
Go down Barchington Avenue on the left, then continue right at the end into Swedwell Road, which joins into Moor Lane. From here, follow the lane for about 500 yards until you reach Steps Lane on your left. Then follow signs toward Brunel Woods.
Once inside Brunel Woods, you’ll find a network of peaceful trails shaded by towering conifers and native trees. The area is named after Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and a stone tower stands as a tribute to his legacy. On clear days, enjoy sweeping views over Torquay and beyond from the higher paths. Here you can also link up with the John Musgrove Heritage Trail.
The route is suitable for moderately fit walkers, though good footwear is advised, especially after rain or on the steep sections. Perfect for a morning ramble or afternoon picnic.
Brunel Woods, Brunel Avenue, Watcombe, Torquay, Devon, TQ2 8NW

Walk to Watcombe Beach (Approx. 2.5 miles one way)
This walk to Watcombe Beach takes you to the closest beach to Treacle Valley campsite, which reside just off the Southwest coast path in Torquay. This walk also takes you past Brunel Woods.
Leave the campsite and head South toward Torquay. Turn left up Daccombe Hill, (the hill here is quite steep, so take your time and enjoy the surrounding farmland and hedgerows). At the top, turn left and follow the lane on the right toward the edge of Barton, where the landscape shifts from rural to residential.
Down on the left you will find Barchington Avenue, continue right down this road, and at the end go right into Swedwell Road, which joins into Moor Lane. From here, follow the lane until you reach the end. Then cross over and go down Watcombe beach Road.
Once inside Watcombe woods you’ll cross the South West coast path which on the left takes you to Maidencombe beach and on the right onto Torquay & Torbay.
The route is suitable for moderately fit walkers, though good footwear is advised, especially after rain or on the steep sections. Perfect for a day out at the beach or a ramble to Torquay via the coast!

Watcombe Beach, Watcombe Beach Road, Torquay, Devon, TQ1 4SH

St. Marychurch to Bishop’s Walk & Thatcher Point Loop (Approx. 3 miles circular)
This beautiful circular walk offers dramatic coastal views and a taste of Torbay’s heritage, starting from St. Marychurch and looping around Bishop’s Walk via Babbacombe Downs and Thatcher Point.
Begin in St. Marychurch and head toward Babbacombe Downs, the highest clifftop promenade in England. The views here are breathtaking and look out over Lyme Bay. If you’re lucky on a clear day it’s possible to see Portland Bill!
Follow the coast path south past the historic Babbacombe Cliff Railway, continuing over the downs, keeping the Babbacombe Theatre to your left, and onto Walls Hill which can be found by turning left at the Divers Down pub. Walls Hill is a protected headland rich in wildflowers and prehistoric history. From here, take the well-trodden path at the end on your left, down to Bishop’s Walk. Turn left at the bottom of the steps, go past the path down to Ansteys Cove Beach and you find Bishops walk on your left.
Bishop’s Walk is a secluded woodland trail that runs above the cliffs, offering amazing moments and vistas of Long Quarry and hidden coves below and latterly Hopes Nose.
At the far end of the walk, go to the road cross over, turn left & loop back by heading up toward Thatcher Point, where the striking rocks The Orestone & Thatcher Rock can be seen. Then continue down with Meadfoot Beach appearing on your left, on your right go through the leafy calm valley of Ilsham Marine Drive, Meadfoot Gardens, Ilsham Road, to Studley Knowle Green & café, and make your way back up to St. Marychurch.
This walk is ideal for a breezy morning or golden-hour stroll. Some sections are uneven, so sturdy shoes are recommended. It’s a fantastic way to enjoy Torbay’s coastline at its most dramatic and peaceful.

Teignmouth to Dawlish Warren via the South West Coast Path (Approx. 5.5 miles one way)
This beautiful coastal walk follows the South West Coast Path from the vibrant seaside town of Teignmouth to the nature-rich dunes of Dawlish Warren. It’s a gently undulating route with uninterrupted sea views and plenty of character.
Begin your walk at Teignmouth Promenade, heading north along the sea wall toward Holcombe. This section of the path runs just above the railway line, with the cliffs on one side and waves crashing below. This section of the South West Coast Path is one of the most iconic coastal stretches in Devon.
As you pass through Holcombe, continue along the clifftop path toward Dawlish, with views stretching across Lyme Bay. You’ll descend into this charming town through landscaped gardens and streams.
From Dawlish, continue along the sea wall to Dawlish Warren, a designated National Nature Reserve. The final stretch takes you past golden beaches, sand dunes, and bird rich estuary wetlands, a haven for nature lovers.
This walk is mostly easy underfoot, with a few slopes and steps. Good footwear and windproof layers are recommended. You can return the same way, or hop on a scenic train or bus from Dawlish Warren, back to Teignmouth.
